About Live Edge Wood
Live edge or natural edge is a style of woodworking where the furniture designer or craftsperson utilizes the natural edge of the wood into the design of the piece. Live edge furniture is often crafted using mesquite, oak, cedar and other types of salvaged wood that could not be used in conventional woodworking. Through the years several methods of working with live edge wood have developed to take advantages of the special challenges involved. Some craftspeople leave the natural holes and cracks in the wood while other artists fill them with resins. In the case of mesquite wood, the boreholes made by longhorn beetles often add to the rustic qualities of their use in furniture making.
